Amazon’sA League of Their Ownseries has made six additions to an already impressive cast.Nat Faxon(The Way Way Back),Kevin Dunn(Warrior),Marquise Vilsón(The Kitchen),Marinda Anderson(New Amsterdam),Don Fanelli(Sunday Dinner), andNancy Lenehan(Catch Me If You Can) have all been cast in major supporting roles for the hourlong series. The new additions will star alongsideAbbi Jacobson(Broad City),D’Arcy Carden(The Good Place), andChanté Adams(Roxanne Roxanne).
Each of the actors has been cast in unique roles that will further flesh out the World War II time period and different attitudes towards a women’s baseball team. Faxon will portray Marshall, the Rockford Peaches' team manager who works for Dunn’s apprehensive league owner Morris Baker. Vilsón will play celebrity coach Red Wright, who also was a former pitcher in the Negro Leagues. Baker’s nephew Alan will be played by Fanelli, who also handles the team’s PR. Lenehan will portray Vivienne, who is tasked with trying to “feminize” the women on the team.

Aside from Jacobson, Carden, and Adams,A League of Their Ownhas a stacked cast with the likes ofNick Offerman(Parks and Recreation),Dale Dickey(My Name Is Earl),Melanie Field(The Alienist), andKate Berlant(Don’t Worry Darling). Original film starRosie O’Donnellwill also appear in a guest role, though she has confirmed it will not be her character of Doris Murphy. In an episode of Danny Pellegrino’s podcastEverything Iconic, O’Donnell revealed she would be playing “a bartender in one of the scenes at a local gay bar.”
Jacobson is also serving as co-creator of the series, alongsideWill Graham(Mozart in the Jungle). According to Amazon, “the show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the league and outside of it.“Jamie Babbit(Only Murders in the Building,The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) directed the pilot. Amazon ordered the series back in August of 2020, and filming has occurred throughout Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania through last month.
There’s no current release date forA League of Their Own, but with filming recently underway a mid-to-late 2022 date is fairly possible.
