Over on Netflix, Marvel is dominating. People loveDaredevilso much that it justspawned aPunisherspinoff, andJessica Jonesnabbed a Peabody Awardalong with its scores of critical acclaim.

But over on the network TV side, things are a little tougher for Marvel. WhileAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.is humming along through its third season and been renewed for a fourth season, matters look dire forAgent Carter. While the showrunners hoped that transplanting the action to Hollywood would help revitalize the show in its second season, it never really gained traction with a large enough audience. While ABC hasn’t officially called off plans for a third season,THRreports that the show’s return is “highly unlikely”. If it does survive the chopping block, star Hayley Atwell plans to juggle it with her other show,Conviction, which is considered likely to score a pickup to series.

The fate of theAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.spinoffMarvel’s Most Wantedis somewhat fuzzier. The show would star agents Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) going off on their own adventures. THR claims that the show “has been cooling and some say it’s not considered the lock it once was.” However,Varietysays the show “isn’t quite a lock, but has a very good chance of going to series.”

Personally, I’ve struggled to stay interested inAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and following around two moreS.H.I.E.L.D.agents doesn’t really seem to be much of a departure. It’s the same, safe territory where network television likes to play, and it’s why cable networks and streaming services have been dominating with far superior programming.
