Even though we’re in the heart of the summer,it’s never too early to start planning for Halloween. That goes double if you’re ahorrorfan. 2025 has been another incredible year so far for the genre with scream-worthy originals likeSinnersand death-defying sequels likeFinal Destination Bloodlines. However, when it comes to the spooky season, you’re able to’t beat the classics. There’s nothing that defines the frightful holiday more thanJohn Carpenter’sHalloween. Now, as the calendar inches closer to October, the first two Michael Myers nightmares are getting chilling new 4K editions.

1978’sHalloweenand 1981’sHalloween IIare both receiving a new 4K/Blu-ray combo pack steelbook fromScream Factory. The Amazon-exclusive editions will have fresh artwork featuring “The Shape.” The original classic highlights the film’s opening Smith’s Grove Sanatorium’s escape by Myers, while the sequel focuses on the fiery ending of “The Night He Came Home.” These releases will have the same special features as Scream Factory’s original 4K slipcover releases in 2021.The steelbooks will also be $44.98 USD each. On top of that,Halloweenwill be getting a new Walmart-exclusive 4K slipcover edition from Scream Factory for $26.96. Almost 50 Years of Horror in Haddonfield

Whether it’sCarpenter’s signature atmospheric direction and vintage musical score, the performances fromJamie Lee CurtisandDonald Pleasenceor the iconic holiday aesthetic,Halloweenquickly became an “immortal classic,” and would define the slasher sub-genre for decades to come. However,Michael Myers didn’t become a franchise untilHalloween IIthree years later in 1981. Although not as beloved as the original thanks to somecontroversial story choicesfrom Carpenter, its direct connection to the 1978 film makes it a must-watch every Halloween.

Another major reasonHalloweenand Michael Myers have stayed in the pop culture conversation has been the merchandise.Action figures fromNECA, Funko Pops, apparel collections, and new physical media editions have exposed a younger generationto Myers’ dreadful white mask.David Gordon Green’srecent legacy trilogyhelped, but most of the merchandise tied to the franchise has been based on thefirst two nightmares.
