Based on comments he made toThe Hollywood Reporter, it seems like McKay wants to come back forAnt-Man and the Wasp, but his future is still up in the air.
Here’s what he had to say,
I was talking to [Paul] Rudd about it the other day. We’ll see what happens, but that would certainly be fun. I loved working with Marvel. And I have a couple of projects in development. One of them is more dramatic, one’s more comedy, still with a little bit of political teeth to it. And there’s a TV show idea I’ve been kicking around.
McKay is gearing up for the release of his latest project, the financial filmThe Big Shortstarring a slew of A-list talent. On the docket for 2016 areThe Brothers Grimsby, which he produced for directorLouis Leterrier, and the R-ratedMelissa McCarthycomedyThe Boss.Casey WilsonandJune Diane Raphaelare alsowriting a comedy seriesfor his production banner withWill Ferrell, Gloria Sanchez.
Not to say that Marvel is difficult to work with, but the superhero giant isn’t for everyone. Wright left on good terms, butThor: The Dark WorldhelmerAlan Taylorhad an overwhelmingly negative experience andAvengers’Joss Whedonis burnt out over so many movies.Ava DuVernay, meanwhile, realized early on in discussions overBlack Pantherthat this environment wouldn’t suit her. Considering how much McKay apparently enjoyed working with Marvel, it seems to be in the studio’s best interest to further this relationship. However, we can’t forget that the script forAnt-Manwas created by Wright and later revamped from McKay and Rudd. It’d be interesting to see anAnt-Mansequel that begins and ends with them.
