Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the upcoming comedyBastards, starringOwen WilsonandEd Helms. The film revolves around a pair of adult brothers whose eccentric mother (Glenn Close) raised them to believe their father died of cancer when they were young, only to discover that this was a flat-out lie. Subsequently, the duo set out to find their real father as their mother narrows it down to a list of possible candidates.

Scripted byJustin Malen(who penned the upcomingBad Teacher 2andBaywatch), the film marks the directorial debut ofLawrence Sher, who has a long resume as a cinematographer that includes all threeHangovermovies,Garden State, andWar Dogs. The film looks like it could be funny enough, mostly hinging on the supporting performances of the characters who play the titular duo’s would-be fathers.J.K. Simmonsis an especially amusing treat in this first-look trailer, but it’s also hard to ignore the film’s less-than-ideal January release date, which is normally a dumping ground for material that is not exactly up to snuff.
