Hot damn, theBlack Panthercast just doesn’t quit. Academy Award-winning actor and all around on-screen delightForest Whitakeris the latest tremendous talent to join the already impressive cast roster, as well asDaniel Kaluuya(Get Out) andFlorence Kasumba(Captain America: Civil War). In addition toChadwick Boseman, who made his impressive debut as the titular Wakandan king, spiritual figure, and superhero inCivil War,Ryan Coogler’s hugely-anticipated follow-up has also lined upMichael B. Jordanas the villainous Killmonger,Andy Serkisas Age of Ultron’s low-tier baddie Ulysses Claw, andWinston Dukeas a key villain M’Baka, nee “Man-Ape”.
Not much is known about Whitaker’s role in Black Panther, but he will play Zuri, an elder statesman of Wakanda. Presumably, he’s filling theTommy Lee JonesinCaptain America/Robert RedfordinThe Winter Soldier/Michael DouglasinAnt-Manrole of respected veteran actor who brings prestige to the superhero spectacle. I certainly hope he’s playing a good guy because T’Challa has got his hands full with villains.
Fortunately, he’s also gotLupita Nyong’oas Nakia – a member of his personal guard the Dora Milaje.KaluuyaandKasumbawill also play allies to T’Challa. Kasumba reprises herCivil Warrole as the total badass Dora Milaje warrior who was ready to trade blows with Black Widow, while Kaluuya will play T’Challa’s confidante W’Kabi.
While we’ve yet to receive an official synopsis of where we find T’Challa after the events of Civil War, here’s what Nyong’o had to say about the story back at Comic-Con:
The story is that the Black Panther’s leadership is really threatened by two foes who come together, and so Black Panther gets the help of the C.I.A. and the Dora Milaje to try and defeat the enemy.
