Larson has been accumulating an impressive resume as an understated character actress for years now, from her deliciously evil turn inScott Pilgrim vs The World,to her celebrated recent dramatic work inRoomandShort Term 12. She certainly reached a new level with her Oscar win, but a leading role in Marvel film would give her the opportunity to show off a new skillset and skyrocket her to the status of an international movie star. She would also just be so genuinely kickass in the role.

Despite being best known for her dramatic work, this isn’t the first time she’s been up for a major tentpole lead. Larson is currently heading upKong: Skull IslandwithTom Hiddlestonand a few years ago she was reportedly in talks for the role of Sarah Connor in the lastTerminatorfilm (Emilia Clarke eventually landed it), but considering how that all went down, Captain Marvel is poised to be an even bigger get.

WhileCaptain Marveldoesn’t arrive in theaters until June 22, 2025, the studio has long considered introducing her character before her standalone film (she was originally set to debut inJoss Whedon’sAge of Ultron), and a recent comment fromCaptain America: Civil WardirectorsJoeandAnthony Russoindicated that Captain Marvel may make her debut in their upcomingAvengers: Infinity Warfilms. Names likeEmily BluntandNatalie Dormerhave been on the top of fan casting lists since the film was announced, but Larson is a bit of an unexpected pick. That said, she would also be a fantastic one.
