The release ofAvengers: Doomsdayis almost exactly 18 months away, and one of the original six Avengers has finally addressed his status in the film. TheMCUwould undoubtedly not be the franchise titan we know it as today if not for the work ofChris Evans, who played Captain America with passion and righteousness for the better part of 10 years during the Infinity Saga. It’s already been confirmed that his Infinity Saga co-starsRobert Downey Jr.andChris Hemsworthare back in the fold for the next Avengers movie — albeit one of them is in a different role — but Evans has debunked any rumors of his involvement. Evans sat down for an interview with ScreenRant to promotehis new movie,Materialists, and he was asked if he’s still in contact with any of his old Marvel pals:
“Yeah, I talk to them all the time. It’s where Pedro is right now. I mean,it’s sad to be away. It’s sad to not be back with the band, but I’m sure they’re doing something incredible, and I’m sure it’s going to be that much harder when it comes out, and you feel like you weren’t invited to the party.”

EvansMaterialistsco-star,Pedro Pascal, is currently on the press tour forThe Fantastic Four: First Stepswhile also filmingAvengers: Doomsday, a double dose of Marvel commitment Evans is all too familiar with. His otherMaterialistsco-star,Dakota Johnson, also made her Marvel debut last year inMadame Web, but it’s highly unlikely she will ever play the character again. It’s also impossible to rule out Evans throwing audiences for a bit of misdirection here, similar to whatAndrew Garfielddid for an entire year beforeSpider-Man: No Way Home. If Evans can keep his involvement a secret, it will make his arrival on screen that much more magical. He just needs to ensure not to be seen picking up a DoorDash order outside the set in London.
Could Chris Evans Play a Variant in ‘Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars’?
While Chris Evans may not reprise his role as Captain America inAvengers: Doomsday, that doesn’t mean he couldn’t be in the film. Just last year, Evans reprised his original Marvel role as The Human Torch inDeadpool & Wolverine, and although he was brutally murdered by Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrín), there are surely other variants of him out there in the multiverse. It’s also possible for Evans to play an evil variant like Captain HYDRA, possibly even one that could team up withRobert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom to help bring down the Avengers they once fought beside.
Avengers: Doomsdaywill hit theaters everywhere on June 25, 2025, and Chris Evans is allegedly not involved in the film. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the film and the wider MCU.
