Chris Hemsworthhas fought Norse gods, climbed canyon cables, and played live drums forEd Sheeran— but there’s one challenge currently keeping him up at night: the future ofExtraction. But despite the success of both entries, Hemsworth admits progress onExtraction 3has slowed — and he’s feeling it, as he explained in a new interview.

“[Tyler Rake is] getting restless. We, the creative team, are putting together some different ideas and creative ventures of where we could take the whole place and the [third] film. But the intention is to certainly make another one. I don’t know exactly when, but yeah, it’ll be coming.”

Hemsworth’s restlessness isn’t surprising. Though originally developed withDwayne Johnsonin mind — back when the project was titledCiudadand theRussoswere fresh off theirCommunitydays — the current iteration of the series owes much of its success to Hemsworth’s emotional intensity and raw physicality.

Extraction(2020) and its sequelExtraction 2(2023) shattered records on Netflix and confirmed that audiences still had a strong appetite for muscular, no-holds-barred thrillers. The second film raised the bar with a now-famous 21-minute “oner” sequence, which Hemsworth filmed during a particularly grueling production. And yet, despite the momentum,Extraction 3is still waiting in the wings. According to Hemsworth, the creative team is working behind the scenes to chart Tyler Rake’s next mission — but it’s taking time to get the pieces in place.
