A new movie from filmmakerDarren Aronofskyis on the horizon. TheBlack Swandirector mulled a couple of projects after completing his passion project,Noah, which was released to a somewhat mixed response, but he ultimately landed ona relationship dramawith one of the biggest movie stars in the world at its center:Jennifer Lawrence. Now, as filming aims to get underway in June, Aronofsky is filling out the rest of his ensemble.
PerTHR,Domhnall Gleeson,Michelle Pfeiffer,Ed Harris, and Gleeson’s brotherBrian Gleesonare in negotiations to join the untitled project, which also hasJavier Bardemset to star. Scripted by Aronofsky, the story follows a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests come to their home and disrupt their lives. That’s about all we’ve got to go on at the moment, but it definitely marks a return to a smaller scale after the herculean effort that wasNoah.

Aronofsky has proven adept at navigating a variety of genres through the course of his career with ease, equally feeling at home with a small psychological thriller likeBlack Swanand an existential epic likeThe Fountain. All eyes were on what project Lawrence might busy herself with next now that her contractual obligations toThe Hunger GamesandX-Menfranchises are complete, and it came as welcome news that she opted to team up with Aronofsky for a character-centric picture.
Gleeson, of course, is coming off a stellar two years with spectacular turns in films as varied asEx Machina,The Revenant, andStar Wars: The Force Awakens, and while he’s set to return forStar Wars: Episode VIII, clearly the actor will continue to challenge himself with a variety of roles. Pfeiffer, meanwhile, is a very welcome addition to this ensemble, as is Harris, who’s been busy lately shooting the upcoming HBO sci-fi seriesWestworld.

While production on this picture begins in June, it’s not expected to be released until 2017, so we’ve still got quite a while to wait until we see this thing. Still, the casting here is mighty promising.
