It’s only been out for two weeks and already Kojima Productions’Death Strandinghas made an impact. The impact isn’t just cultural (seriously, whoisn’tplaying this game right now?) but it’s made an impact on the 2019 Game Awards nominees list, which was released on Tuesday morning.
PerThe Hollywood Reporter’s write-up, we know thatDeath Strandingis leading the nominees with 10 nods in categories like Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and the coveted Game of the Year. Additionally,Death StrandingstarNorman Reedushas secured a nomination for his performance as the protagonist at the center ofHideo Kojima’s game, Sam Porter Bridges. Reedus' co-star,Mads Mikkelsen, has also scooped up a nomination for his performance as Clifford “Cliff” Unger, one of the game’s big bads who has a mysterious connection to Sam.
505 Games’Controlis another top nominee, with eight nods in many of the same categories asDeath Stranding. Meanwhile, popular games likeUntitled Goose Game,Resident Evil 2,The Outerworlds, andOverwatchhave all been nominated in one or more categories. Despite stiff competition in many of the categories, it’s easy to seeDeath Strandingis one of the biggest — if notthebiggest — competitors in this year Game Awards race.
