Vin Dieselrecently let fans know thatFast 8— the start ofThe Fast and The Furious’ “last trilogy” — would be filming in New York City by releasing aposteron his social media accounts. But what he didn’t tell us was that the production would also be filming in Iceland.Thatwe learned, naturally, from Iceland Review.
Indeed,Iceland Reviewreports that residents in the town of Akranes (north of Reykjavik, but don’t pretend you know where that is) have been told the movie will be filming some scenes there. Akranes has also, notably, been the setting for scenes from Netflix’sSense8. This time, filming “will mostly take place by the harbor and in the so-called Cement Fields.”

These so-called Cement Fields may be where the production plans toblow some shit up. “The crewhas plans to carry out the largest explosion ever in Iceland,“ and Akranes’ mayor,Regína Ásvaldsdóttir, has confirmed both the filming location and that “residents are excited.” Wouldn’t you be?Fast 8is about to crack your island nation in half!
The movie will be directed byStraight Outta Compton’sF. Gary Gray, whotold us recentlythat,

“We’re really pushing to ensure the audience feels like it’s not more of the same. They feel like it’s fresh, they feel like the characters they’ve come to know and love are there, but this is gonna be different, and that’s probably the most I can give you right now. It’s kind of top secret.”
However, filming is set to take place in Iceland in April, with the movie’s release date slated for a year later, in April 2017.

In the meantime, here’s a Diesel-related tidbit. Our friends at Complex posted this video earlier of a young, always-swole Dieselselling shark toysfrom 1994. It is glorious, and everything you could hope for (and possibly more).
