The Magnificent Sevenhas [insert your own Western verb pun here — Lassoed? Roped in? Corralled?] $12.7 million on Friday, which is a good haul that puts it on track for more than $35 million through the weekend. Westerns aren’t typically box office barnstormers these days, butMagnificent Sevenis already on track to bestQuentin Tarantino’sThe Hateful Eight, which premiered Christmas weekend of 2015 to $16.2 million, as well asDjango Unchained, which provided a pretty nice box office opening in 2012 of $30.1 million. (Cowboys and Aliensholds the current record at $36.4 million for live-action, but if animation is included thenRango’s $38.1 wins overall).

The movie’s star power — includingDenzel Washington,Chris Pratt,Ethan Hawke,Vincent D’OnofrioandByung-Hun Lee— should recoupMagnificent Seven’s $90 million price tag for Sony, as it seemsAntoine Fuqua’s latest could draw significant crowds over the weekend.

Storks, meanwhile, is struggling with its $5.7 million debut, securing a predicted $20 million for the weekend. Usually kid flicks are a sure bet butNicholas StollerandDoug Sweetland’s movie has not performed to expectations yet. But a generally good CinemaScore could mean that word of mouth might help it in the coming weeks. The movie’s voice cast includesKatie Crown,Kelsey Grammer,Keegan-Michael Key,Jordan Peele,Jennifer Aniston,Ty BurrellandDanny Trejo, and though the film carried a moderate price tag of $70 million, it remains to be seen if it will be an uphill battle forStorksto deliver those numbers back to the studio.

TheTom Hanks-starrerSully, which has sat atop the box office for the last two weeks, has dutifully fallen to third, bringing in $4.2 million. Sequels forBlair WitchandBridget Jonesadded a little bit to their coffers as well, but both have continued to perform below expectations, whileOliver Stone’sSnowden(falling just out of the Top 5) has them nearly matched.
