Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment have released a newGodzilla: King of the Monsterstrailer. The sequel to the 2014 American franchise relaunch comes fromTrick ‘r TreatandKrampusfilmmakerMichael Doughertyand starsStranger ThingsbreakoutMillie Bobby BrownalongsideVera FarmigaandKyle Chandlerin another city-stomping monster epic. This time the King of the Monsters is joined by some of his fellow iconic Kaiju including the hangar jet sized insectoid Mothra, the three-headed beast King Ghidorah, and the titanic Pteranodon Rodan.
The followup will see the return of Monarch, the mysterious “crypto-zoological agency” introduced inGodzillaand the shared-universe prequelKong: Skull Island(which teased the arrival of Mothra & co. in a post-credits scenes), who face off against the ancient super-species once again in their mission to protect human existence.

I really like the use of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” here since it conveys that these monsters aren’t just mindless beasts, but there’s majesty to them. To be a Godzilla fan, you can’t just like carnage and destruction. You have to like the monsters. That’s what distinguishes aGodzillamovie from something likeRampage. This trailer also lays out that the title fight is really Godzilla versus Ghidorah (as it usually is in these movies), and my only real complaint is watching what’s meant to be massive spectacle on my desktop screen. The best thing I can say about this trailer is that it makes the case to see the movie in the theater.

Here’s the official synopsis forGodzilla: King of the Monsters:
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
