David Arquettehas always carved his own path, whether it was throughthe world of horror withScream, the wrestling ring with WCW, or nowthe crime-ridden streets ofMob Cops. Speaking to Collider’sAidan Kelleywhile promoting the new film — which also starsKevin Connolly, Jeremy LukeandGraham Sibley— Arquette reflected on his wrestling journey, his passion projects, and why he never set out to be a trailblazer — even if that’s exactly what he became. When asked about his impact on the wrestling world — particularly after the release of his critically acclaimed documentaryYou Can’t Kill David Arquette— the actor was as humble as ever.

“I don’t know. I’ve never seen myself, really, as a trailblazer,” Arquette said with a laugh. “I do things that I love, that I have a passion for, that I want to spend my time working hard at. That’s how I ended up working on Bozo the Clown and doing stuff like that. But I always attempt to follow the things that I love, and they always lead you on an adventure to places with people that also love these things.”

It’s a great way of approaching life for a man whose career has spanned everything fromblockbuster filmsto indie passion projects — and, of course, an infamous (and ultimately redemptive) detour into professional wrestling.

What Has David Arquette Done In Wrestling and Beyond?

In 2000, Arquette infamously won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in a move that infuriated wrestling fans and became symbolic of WCW’s chaotic downfall. But years later, he returned to the ring with genuine grit and determination, winning back the respect of fans by embracing the physical, punishing reality of the business. His journey was captured inYou Can’t Kill David Arquette, showing a side of the actor that few had seen before — even if he nearly died in the process following a shocking “deathmatch” withNick Gage.

Now, withMob Copson the horizon and new adventures ahead (including an unexpected but welcome return as Dewey inScream 7), Arquette’s career remains a testament to the idea that following your heart — even into a wrestling deathmatch — can lead to something unforgettable, and give you the chance to make things happen that you never thought you could.

“I love the mob movies; that’s why I wanted to do a mob movie. I love Westerns; that’s why I love doing Westerns. Whenever you can do things like that, you find yourself in this world, and then you’re on a horse, shooting guns. There are just cool elements throughout that make the things you love a part of your life. So that’s, for me, the goal.”
