DC fans finally have something to smile about.James Gunn’sSupermanhas hit theaters.David Corenswet’s Man of Steelis the focus of the new film, but he’s not the only major DC Comics character soaring high in its story. One of the heroes making her big screen debut isHawkgirl, played byIsabela Merced. Now, to mark the special heroic occasion, Funko has officially unveiled their Hawkgirl Pop based onSuperman.
Funko’s latestSupermanPop sees Hawkgirl in her “Justice Gang” uniform complete with her iconic Hawk mask, wings and signature mace. The character sits on a clear stand in a hovering flight position as she gets ready to attack. This particular figure is limited to 5000 pieces and will be $25 USD. Hawkgirl now joins her other Justice Gang members like Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) in Funko form. Other characters a part of Funko’s Superman film line are Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) and Krypto the Superdog. In the past, the popular vinyl figure company has made Hawkgirl figures for her classic comic book appearance and her role in the live-action CW seriesDC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
Hawkgirl & the Justice Gang
While Hawkgirl wasn’t inSupermana ton, she left a lasting mark on the film with her punch-first-ask-questions-later attitude and her unique fighting style. Each member of the Justice Gang brought something distinct to the film, with Hawkgirl’s wings being a nice visualtreat for long-time DC fans. Hopefully, this is just a tease of a much bigger role for Merced in future DC projects.The character has a lengthy history with theJustice Leagueand theGreen Lantern Corps, so those are just some of the things Gunn can explore.
Hawkgirl has been protecting the DC universe for over 70 years. In that timeframe, she’s gotten a handful of her own solo comic series and appeared in a few beloved DC shows.This includes the previously mentionedDC’s Legends of Tomorrowand the 2000sJustice Leagueanimated series.The latter of which, she was a founding member of the famous team. Over the years, the hero has also got a few stellar pieces of merchandise. For example,McFarlane Toysreleased their latest comic book figure for the character this past spring. Hopefully, as her popularity grows with the new films and shows, Merced’s Hawkgirl will get more action figures and Funko Pops.She’ll next appear inPeacemakerSeason 2.
