Tom Hardy’s fans are having a ball with his latest releases,MobLand, and his upcoming Netflix action thriller,Havoc. New projects mean Hardy is out and about doing press interviews, where he also ended up talking about his iconic superhero run withVenom. During these interviews, he hinted thatVenom andTom Holland’s Spider-Man came really close to crossing over. Fans at the time felt that “studio politics” was at play (thanks to the way the question was phrased), but in a new interview, Hardy clarified that the crossover didn’t get “killed” but simply “didn’t happen.”

“I didn’t say that at all,” theVenomstar said, further explaining his thought process. “That’s kind of moved on from a very simple quote that I said specifically about my children watching Venom.” He previously stressed that his desire to make the Venom and Spider-Man crossover happen was less about commercial success and more about giving a younger audience what they want. He further explained, “It’s hard to explain to a young child why their favorite superheroes can’t be in a film together and that’s such a shame. And we almost got it, but it didn’t happen, which is the truth. It didn’t happen. And we almost got together because I remember being in theSpider-Man movieand you know it was connected, and it just didn’t happen.” He put a full stop to any more speculations, adding,

The trilogy is now over and it didn’t happen. So, it didn’t get killed by anything, it just didn’t happen.I’ve been misquoted there. People get excited about anything Venom or anything to do with superheroes and stuff and it’s sort of taken on another life. I just want to be clear that I didn’t say that.
