Is the First ‘It’ Trailer Finally Dropping Next Week?

At long last, the first footage fromAndy Muschietti’sItadaptation may finally be upon us. We’ve caught glimpses of the new spin on Stephen King’s terrifying tale of a small New England town ravaged by a child-murdering clown, mostly through still images of Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise and instagram snaps from the set, but if social media hype is to be believed, the first trailer for the film will drop next week on the 29th.

Muscietti and producer Barbara Muschietti (his sister and creative partner), have both dropped teases on their instagram accounts pointing to the 29th. Barbara’s is a bit less overt, but Andy has dropped an all out countdown on his IG page. New Line recently debuted the first trailer and a film clip at SXSW, so we know there’s a fully cut trailer locked and loaded and ready to drop at any point, and it’s looking like that point is next Wednesday. Check out the Muschiettis' teases below.

Listen to Tim Curry Talk Pennywise on the ‘It’ Set in Rare Vintage Audio

While we’re on the subject ofIt… While Andy Muschietti’s new movie will be under a pretty severe microscope considering how beloved the story is, no element is poised for more intense scrutiny than Bill Skarsgard’s spin on Pennywise the Clown. The 1990 TV special may not have been all that great as a whole, butTim Curry’s turn as the child-murdering ancient evil is iconic and has stood the test of time as nightmare fuel for generations.

However, the actor (who is fairly resistant to interviews in general) has largely remained mum on Pennywise throughout his career. In a bit of a rare treat, the folks over atBloodyDisgustingdug up some audio from the set of Tommy Lee Wallace’sITback in 1990. Former Fangoria correspondent Steve Newton shared three-minute a snippet of an interview he conducted on the set. Listen for yourself below. Newton has also archived his full set visit report,Part OneandPart Twoare both available on his blog.

Nicholas Winding-Refn’s ‘Maniac Cop’ Remake Is a Go

Nicholas Winding Refn’s long-developedManiac Copremake finally has the green light! Refn will produce alongside his partnerLene Børglum, withJohn Hyamsset to direct.William Lustig, who helmed the 1988 cult classic, will also serve as a creative producer alongside Refn.Varietyreports that the film “will not be a pure horror film but rather a contemporary and realistic action thriller.”

For the unfamiliar, Hyams had a run of DTV actioners starringJean-Claude Van DammewithUniversal Soldier: Regeneration,Dragon Eyes, andUniversal Soldier: Day of Reckoningand on TV shows likeZ NationandThe Originals. “The reason why we wanted to work with John Hyams is because we love his visual style and his ability to work extremely well on a limited budget,” Børglum told the outlet.

I’m super excited by this news. Having Lustig on board in a creative capacity is a huge advantage for the production, and Hyams has made some damn fine DTV films, especiallyDay of Reckoning. Add Refn and Børglum to the mix, and you’ve got a team of schlocksperts, aka schlock experts, that could make for a very interesting spin on the original film.

Fear the Walking DeadshowrunnerDave Ericksonwill step down after the third season of AMC’sThe Walking Deadspin-off in order to develop new projects at the network as a part of a new overall deal. Erickson previously worked on AMC’sLow Winter Sunand FX’sSons of Anarchy, and will continue to serve as executive producer onThe Walking Dead.

“We’re beyond grateful for Dave’s amazing work on the first three seasons ofFear the Walking Dead. With Dave as showrunner, the series fulfilled its creative promise to expand theWalking Deaduniverse in a way that was totally unique from the original series, and has gone on to become the number two drama series in ad-supported cable, behind onlyThe Walking Dead," said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV. “We are also incredibly excited that Dave has chosen to stay in the AMC family to pursue his next passion project. We look forward to many more successful collaborations.”

“I have truly enjoyed working with the writers and directors, cast and crew on ‘Fear’ and am so proud of what we have accomplished over our first two seasons,” Erickson said. “I look forward to completing work on season three, sharing it with the fans and developing new projects with my partners at AMC.”

‘Alien: Covenant’ Gets a Glorious New Poster

Alien: Covenant’s marketing team has been killing the poster game. From aminimalist monster portraitto adusted-off old classic, each new piece of poster art has effectively inspired excitement forRidley Scott’s return to theAliensaga. However, the latest piece is on the next level, and it’s the kind of great poster that blurs the line between advertising and artwork – something that’s becoming more and more rare theses days.

Covenantpicks up ten years after the events ofPrometheus, following the crew of the Covenant on a terraforming mission that leads them to a picturesque planet where terror, death, andMichael Fassbender’s David (who seems to be the cause of both of those last two things) lie in wait.Alien: Covenantalso starsKatherine Waterson, Danny McBride, Amy Seimetz, Billy Crudup,Demian Bichir, Tess Haubrich, Nathaniel DeanandCarmen Ejogo, and arrives in theaters on May 19th.
