Season 5 ofThe Chosenmay have come and gone, but that just means it’s time for a rewatch. After all, with such deep character and story growth over the last set of episodes, there’s plenty to be gained from a second time around. We recently chatted with series starElizabeth Tabish— who plays Mary Magdalene in the series — and asked her about her favorite scene from the latest installment of theDallas Jenkins-created series. Her answer not only gives credit to the two performers in the sequence but also reflects her high esteem for Jenkins and the rest of the team, who work tirelessly to ensure the final product is nothing but A+ material.

“There is a scene with Thaddeus and Jesus that I adore. The way it’s filmed and edited, the writing, the performances of Giavani Cairo and Jonathan Roumie. It’s stunning.Watching this gentle, quiet character full of humility and patience have his own moment to shine, to share his story,to show the depth of his devotionis a real treat. It’s a sequence loaded with an honesty that doesn’t shy away from the pain and sacrifice that comes from following this preacher. At the same time, it also reminds me of those unseen, unquantifiable rewards that give purpose to suffering.”

Referring to it as “his own moment to shine” is incredibly on point, as Cairo’s character is one ofJesus’ followerswho has largely taken a backseat in the overarching storyline. While other personalities, likeShahar Isaac’s Simon Peter, have had plenty of camera time and focus poured into their backgrounds, the same can’t be said for Cairo’s Thaddeus. The moment between Thaddeus and Jesus not only helped to round out the relationship between student and teacher but also allowed Cairo to show off his abilities and step into the spotlight.
