In the last five years or so,Jacob Elordihas established himself as one of Hollywood’s brightest new (male) talents. It’s a wonder thatAlex GarlandandRay Mendozadidn’t cast him in their recent filmWarfare. But perhaps he was occupied; Elordi is currently working on the long-awaited third season of HBO’sEuphoria, but did you know that a fix for his fans is available right at this moment? He’s headlining the Prime Video seriesThe Narrow Road to the Deep North, which debuted on April 18 to incredible reviews, but doesn’t seem to have made much of a noise.
In fact, theshow hasn’t even hit Prime Video’s domestic top 10 charts in the last three days, according to data collated byFlixPatrol. That being said, it’s finding an audience in Elordi’s home country of Australia. The Narrow Road to the Deep Northhas been averaging between 15 and 30 “points” on FlixPatrol this past week, whileThe Last of Ushas been consistently hitting around 500. The five-episode series is based on a Booker Prize-winning Australian novel byRichard Flanagan, and features some of Australia’s brightest talent, both in front of and behind the camera. The series is directed byJustin Kurzel, best known for films such asSnowtownand the ill-fatedAssassin’s Creed, and starsOlivia DeJongeandOdessa Young, among others. The storyfollows a soldier named Dorrigo Evans, who is haunted by a past love affair and his time as a prisoner of war during World War II.

The Narrow Road to the Deep North’s 100%Rotten Tomatoesscore puts it in rare company. Even the wildly popular Netflix seriesAdolescencecouldn’t manage to maintain a perfect score on the aggregator website. Nor could the recently released second seasons ofThe Last of UsandAndor. The website’s consensus reads, “A difficult watch made riveting by director Justin Kurzel and star Jacob Elordi’s sterling work,The Narrow Road to the Deep Northchronicles the inhumanity of war with fierce intelligence.“In her review, Collider’sIsabella Soaresdescribed the show as “a tough watch, but one that doesn’t hold back from displaying the cruelty of war and the dangers of blind ambition.”
