Netflix finally released the first official trailer forStranger ThingsSeason 5 this morning, and while it unsurprisingly returns a host of the show’s tenured veterans, it also pays homage to a Season 4 fan favorite.Stranger ThingsSeason 4 introduced thebeloved Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), who nobly gives his life at season’s end to buy his friends time to escape. Eddie is not expected to return inStranger ThingsSeason 4, but he certainly leaves his mark on the newly-released trailer. The first look at the season not only shows his grave in Hawkins, but also characters like Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) grappling with the aftermath of his death. Dustin and Eddie grew close in Season 4 until Eddie ultimately died in his arms at the end of the season.
We can’t definitively rule out or confirm Eddie’s return inStranger Things’ fifth and final season, Joseph Quinn’s reprisal of the role would certainly lead to controversy among the fans. Eddie’s death left a lasting impact on the franchise that has had staying power forStranger Thingsviewers, and it didn’t hurt Quinn’s career, either — he’s been on a steady upward trajectory since Season 4 aired in 2022. Regardless of whetherQuinn returns as Eddie Munsonvia flashbacks or even a resurrection of sorts, it’s good to see Netflix carrying the weight of his death, which is certainly still hurting some characters, into the final season. Fans can still look forward to some other fan-favorite stars returning, likeMillie Bobby Brown,David Harbour, andJoe Keery, who are all confirmed to reprise their roles as Eleven, Hopper, and Steve Harrington, one final time.

Joseph Quinn Has Become a Megastar Since ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4
Joseph Quinn may have just been Eddie fromStranger Thingsin 2022, but this is far from the case in 2025. Just last year, Quinn started oppositeLupita Nyong’oinA Quiet Place: Day One, the horror prequel that received critical acclaim and grossed over $250 million globally. He’s also due to make his MCU debut as The Human Torch next week inThe Fantastic Four: First Steps, and he’ll star asGeorge Harrisonin one of four Beatles biopics fromSam Mendes. At age 31, Quinn has more than cemented his place as one of thebiggest up-and-coming stars in Hollywood.
