Joss Whedoncan be looked upon as one of the many heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not fromthe actual movies, but for giving Marvel (and the fans) everything he had forAvengersandAvengers: Age of Ultron. It was awhile back when Whedon announced he was done with the MCU to which fans, no doubt, were a little upset. But, on the bright side of things, that freed him up to work on new material.

During an interview withThe Wrapat the inaugural HeForShe Media Summit in Los Angeles, Whedon finally revealed some details about what he’s working on next. Here’s what he told the outlet about his new script:

“It is a story about a girl who goes through some unbelievable shit … It is an original screenplay that is very different from everything I’ve ever done except for that it’s exactly the same.”

Some would call this a confusing statement. Others might call it classic Whedon. But hey, at least it’s something to go on. Plus, it makes sense for Whedon to hold back details when he’s still working on the script, which he hopes to finish up in the next couple of months.

Not having the weight of a Cinematic Universe on his shoulders must be freeing, but Whedon also finds it terrifying. In talking about his script, it obviously brought up some old memories about working with Marvel and a studio like Disney. Here’s what he said about the process he’s in now:

“It’s the first time in my life I’m writing without a sort of studio audience rating — without a plan. I’m just writing about something I care about, so it’s a little terrifying and it’s taking a little longer. But I think it will be good!”

Regardless, The Wrap did make a play for some Marvel news. Here’s what Whedon said when the outlet asked if he’d be interested in directing a female-driven Avengers franchise:

“Yeah, of course. Although I tend more towards the Jessica Jones-ey kind of stories than the delightful Supergirl stories that my daughter wants.”

Whether Whedon will return or not to take on another Marvel movie, or if he’ll ever get to tackle a big budget female led superhero movie (ahem,Captain Marvel!), remains to be seen. For now, we’ll just have to be happy with his original material.
