“We are all jealous of Whoopi today because she’s in Italy — I hope it’s 100 degrees…She’s in Italy accepting an award for her bookBits and Pieces, so she will be out this week,”the long-time co-host revealed after easing viewers' minds.
With Whoopi out,Ana Navarrowill be sitting in for the week in Behar’s usual spot. But have no fear,Whoopi will return to the Hot Topics' table on July 7thfollowingthe traditional July 4th summer break.
Whoopi Has Been Absent Before
Whoopi shared her big moment in Italy with fans on Instagram. Along with a photo from the event, the Oscar-winner wrote, “Thank you (Grazie!)@taobukfestivalfor giving me a beautiful experience in an extraordinary environment, an honorable award and your kindness.Books are so important to all the world.”
Before Behar revealed Whoopi’s reason for absence,some social media users believed it may have revolved around her explosive Hot Topics’moment last week withAlyssa Farah Griffin. “Let’s just remember too, the Iranians literally throw gay people off of buildings, they don’t adhere to basic human rights,” Farah Griffin remarked, with Goldberg firmly responding, “Let’s not do that, because if we start with that, we have been known in this country to tie gay folks to the car. Whoopi has previously been suspended for comments she’s madeon the daytime talk show. In 2022, she was reprimanded for saying that the Holocaust was “not about race.” For her comments,the beloved host did apologizeand acknowledged the error in her comments.
