Kevin Costneris a two-time Oscar-winner for his work onDances With Wolves, but the most recent film from theYellowstonestar just got a disappointing streaming update. Costner stars in and directsHorizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1, which has been streaming on Netflix for the entire year. Unfortunately, as all good things come to an end, Netflix has announced thatthe last day to watchHorizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1will be on July 15. This still gives fans roughly a month to check out the three-hour sweeping Western epic thatfailed to deliver even half of its reported $100 million budgetat the box office, grossing only $38 million. The film earned scores of 51% from critics and 70% from audiences onRotten Tomatoes.
Costner is arguably most famous for his role as John Dutton inYellowstone, the hit contemporary Western series fromTaylor Sheridan, but things didn’t end as happily as they started. Costner has been open that his departure fromYellowstone, which aired its series finale near the end of last year, was partially due to his desire to focus more onHorizon. During 2024, when both projects were filming at once, he evenleft the set ofHorizonto film scenes forYellowstone, only to arrive and realize that the scripts for his scenes were not complete.Costner has also clashed withYellowstonecreator Taylor Sheridanover creative differences during the final season, so it’s safe to say both parties are happy to have moved on. The sequel to Costner’sHorizon: An American Sagais ready to be released, but has beenstuck in turmoil since last year.
When Is the Second ‘Horizon’ Movie Coming Out?
It’s unclear at this time whenHorizon: An American Saga: Chapter 2will be released. The film was originally scheduled to premiere last year, but after the first movie performed excruciatingly poorly at the box office, its sequel wasremoved from the release schedule entirely.Horizon Chapter 2did premiere at the Venice International Film Festival last year, but it was also poorly received, which certainly didn’t spur any plans for global distribution. StarGlynn Turmanrecently revealed that theybegan filmingPart 3, but have since shut downand are unsure if they’re going to pick back up again.
