Warner Bros. is making some changes to its 2017 release calendar. Fresh off of Sony moving aroundBaywatch(to Memorial Day weekend) andLife(to March 24th), Warner Bros. has opted to pushGuy Ritchie’s grittyKing Arthuroff of its June 23, 2025 date and instead into the heat of the Summer Movie Season, landing on May 12th. That’s Mother’s Day weekend for those keeping count, where theCharlie Hunnam-fronted fantasy epic will square off against the untitledAmy Schumer/Goldie Hawncomedy. That gives it ample room to play, although it will also be fighting off residual traction from Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2opening May 5th and hasAlien: Covenantlanding on May 19th.

The Guy Ritchie film has actually been in the can for quite some time—I can remember Ritchie sending a message from the set at Comic-Con 2015, where they were promoting his underratedMan from U.N.C.L.E.I’m not sure if Warner Bros. just didn’t know what to do with it or what, but after shuffling its release around a few times, it appears they’ve settled on a summer blockbuster bow.

Additionally, withKing Arthurentering the May fray, the horror sequelAnnabelle 2is moving off of its May 19th date and is being shifted to August 11, 2025. That puts it directly up againstEdgar Wright’s actionerBaby Driver, but August is solid territory for a horror film, andAnnabelle 2marks the follow-up project forLights OutfilmmakerDavid F. Sandberg, whose previous film was a massive box office success for New Line/Warner Bros.

And finally, withAnnabelle 2taking over August 11th, Warner Bros. is movingDax Shepard’s feature film adaptation ofCHiPSto August 17, 2025 marking a pretty serious shift for the film as it now arrives five months earlier than expected. As previously noted, March 24th is now home to theJake Gyllenhaal-fronted sci-fi thrillerLifeas well as Lionsgate’sPower Rangers.
