Warner Bros. has released the first trailer forKong: Skull Island, the 1970s-set blockbuster reimagining of theKing Kongmythos. 11 years afterPeter Jackson’s remake,Kings of SummerdirectorJordan Vogt-Robertswill resurrect the franchise with the tale of a diverse team of explorers who venture deep into uncharted territory and find themselves intruding into the realm of the mythic Kong.

And this is a Kong unlike any we’ve seen before. Not just two to five times the height of a human being,Kong: Skull Island’stitle monster will clock in at 100-feet tall. Clearly the intention this time around is not to create a creature which is just similar enough to humans to allow for empathy between the species, but to bulk up the classic movie monster so that he can more convincingly go toe-to-toe with Warner Bros. building-sized behemoth,Godzilla. The result is the look and feel of a monster movie from a bygone era, albeit with modern machinery and effects bringing the story to life. It looks like good popcorn fun.
