The oil fields of West Texas are about to get a whole lot dustier — anda lotmore iconic.Sam Elliott, the gravel-voiced legendof the American West, is officially joining the cast ofLandmanSeason 2, reuniting withTaylor Sheridanafter their collaboration on1883. While details about Elliott’s new role are still under wraps, let’s be real: nobody casts Sam Elliott and hands him a Michelob Ultra. Expect a character that’s rough around the edges, drinks something closer to straight whiskey, and can stare down a rattlesnake without blinking.

Production onSeason 2is currently underway deep in the heart of Texas, withBilly Bob Thorntonback in the saddle as Tommy Norris. Thornton, who’s also executive producing, confirmed Elliott’s addition during a recent sit-down with Deadline, saying,“I go way back with [Sam] to the mid-80s. Yes, I’m old.”

What Can We Expect From Season 2 of ‘Landman’?

No word yet on how Elliott’s character will fit into the series, but given thatJon Hamm’s Monty Millermet his end in the Season 1 finale(RIP Monty, death by heart surgery), it’s clear thatLandmanis shifting into new territory — and some new hands are needed to wrangle it. Elliott’s addition is a big deal for fans — and for the show itself. His performance as Shea Brennan in1883earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award and was one of the emotional anchors of theYellowstoneprequel. IfLandmanis aiming to double down on grit, authenticity, and old-school cowboy energy (even if it’s cowboys in oil rigs instead of cattle drives), Elliott is basically the ultimate cheat code.

Demi Moore, fresh off an Academy Award nomination forThe Substance, is set to take a much bigger role in Season 2 as Cami Miller, stepping into leadership of Monty’s oil empire.Andy Garciais also returning, along with familiar faces likeAli Larter,Jacob Lofland,Michelle Randolph, andPaulina Chávez. Basically, if you thought the Texas oil industry was ruthless before, you haven’t seen anything yet.
