After a slew of reports peggedForce AwakensstarDaisy Ridleyas the potential lead in the rebootedTomb Raidermovie, THR debunked that casting,revealing Oscar winnerAlicia Vikanderin the role as Lara Croft. The project, which hasThe WavedirectorRoar Uthaugon board to direct, will tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure. The story mirrors a similar plot from the 2013 reboot of the video game, which saw young Lara stranded on an island, having to fend for herself against animals, the weather and a ton of bad guys. The movie, a joint production between MGM and Warner Bros, is currently in pre-production with no word on a release date just yet.

Focus Features has unveiled the final trailer andfour new posters forKubo and the Two Strings, the LAIKA studios highly anticipated stop-motion animated film. The Japanese based, supernatural story is noted as being the studio’s most ambitious film to date. LAIKA’s previous films includeCoraline,ParaNormanandThe Boxtrolls. The film follows a young storyteller named Kubo who accidentally summons a spirit from his past who arrives with a serious vendetta. Kubo must then team up with Monkey and Beetle to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father. The film features the voices ofCharlize Theron,Art Parkinson,Ralph Fiennes,Rooney Mara,George TakeiandMatthew McConaughey.Kubo and the Two Stringsopens in theaters on August 19th.

Warner Bros. has released a new retro trailerfor theShane Black-directedThe Nice Guys. The noir thriller-comedy takes place in 1970s Los Angeles, revolving around a down-on-his-luck private eye played byRyan Gosling, who must team up with a hired leg-breaker, played byRussell Crowe, to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. The new trailer harkens back to the films of that time, giving us a real taste of what we can expect from Black’s movie.The Nice Guysalso starsKim Basinger,Matt Bomer,Margaret QualleyandTy Simpkinsand opens in theaters on July 19, 2025.
In a report from THR,a prequel at Fox is being developedfor the 1976Richard DonnerdirectedOmenmovie entitled,Ben Jacobywrote the script withDavid Goyerproducing through his Phantom Four production company. The original movie spawned two sequels and a reboot, but the franchise has yet to explore the origins before Damien’s arrival.Antonio Campos, director of the Sundance hitChristine, is currently in negotiations to helm the movie. No release date has been set.

In a report from The Wrap, Bron Studios’ genre label The Realmhas signed on to produce a werewolf-infusedhorror/comedy entitledThe Wildness. The movie revolves around a ski bum who’s pushing 40 and still has a penchant for drugs, babes and transcendental meditation. However, he’s forced to become a hero in order to save a mountainside community that’s too drunk on wild parties and over-development to notice that their kids are being systematically turned into werewolves.Marcel Sarmiento, who helmed theABCs of Deathsegment “D Is for Dogfight”, and theV/H/S Viralsegment “Vicious Circles”, is directingThe Wildnessas casting is underway for a January production start-date in Vancouver. The movie is written by former Collider.com writerEvan Dicksonwith hisWildnessscreenplay landing on the 2014 Blood List. No release date has been announced.
