Days after the second season of thePablo Escobardrama seriesNarcosbecame available on Netflix, the streaming giant has announced that the show will indeed continue on. However, instead of simply orderingNarcosSeason 3, Netflix announced today that it has renewed the series fortwomore seasons, ensuring that fans will get to enjoy this drama series at least through four complete seasons.José Padilha(Elite Squad) andEric Newman(Children of Men) will continue to serve as executive producers of the show for these next two seasons, ensuring that the behind-the-scenes creative team will indeed remain intact.
Produced by Gaumont International Television—the same studio that producedHannibal—Narcospremiered last August to mostly positive reviews, with Padilha and Newman aiming to chronicle the rise and fall of notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar in television form. Now obviously the kingpin reaches a fatal end, and the producers made no secret of the fact thatWagner Moura’s characterwould indeed die before the series was complete, as the aim of the show wasn’t simply to revolve around the life of this one man, but to cover in great detail the cocaine business and America’s hypocritical relationship with the drug war.
WhileNarcoshasn’t garnered the same acclaim as some other Netflix series likeHouse of CardsandOrange Is the New Black, it fills a solid niche in the streaming giant’s programming and certainly seems to be quite popular. Of course we don’t knowhowpopular since Netflix refuses to share user data, but folks on the internet sure like talkin’ aboutNarcos.
