Sarah Michelle Gellar, yes, Buffy Summers herself, has lofty goals for the upcomingBuffy The Vampire Slayersequel series. The new show was announced earlierthis year, and it received a pilot order from Hulu, with Gellar confirmed to return as Buffy Summers.Chloé Zhaowill direct withNora ZuckermanandLilla Zuckerman(Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,Poker Face) serving as showrunners. While Gellar won’t be the main Chosen One the series focuses on – that’s insteadSkeleton Crew’sRyan Kiera Armstrong– Gellar still has big plans for the upcoming sequel series. She’s said previously that “you have to do it right.” But now, Gellar talked withVanity Fairabout what she wants to see out of it, including a very, very lofty task:
“My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.”

If Gellar Follows Through, Can We Get a Cordelia Chase Redux?
We know what you’re thinking:Charmisa Carpenter’s Cordelia Chase didn’t die inBuffy the Vampire Slayer! You’d be correct. Her fate would continue in the Buffy spin-off,Angel, which featuredDavid Boreanaz(Bones) in Los Angeles. The series ran for five seasons. Cordelia died instead inAngel, but through supernatural means, ascended and became a higher being, working for the Powers That Be.In the most literal sense, it sounds like Gellar means everyone that was killed off in the originalBuffy The Vampire Slayerseries (does that mean her mom? Please mean her mom!), but it could extend to the Buffyverse as a whole (maybe if asked nicely enough).
Cordelia was often painted as a foil to Buffy, and the pair, though originally antagonistic, became friends, and Cordelia became an invaluable member of the Scoobies. Eventually, when she ventures to Los Angeles and sees Angel again, Cordelia’s character growth goes through the roof. She remains her bubbly preppy self at her core, butthere’s a maturity that settles over Cordelia, a softness that wasn’t presentwhen she was in the original series. Carpenter has shared her enthusiasm for wanting to return, “I hope — if I am involved — I hope so in some fashion it’s more in a substantive way. That would be my dream,“she told fans at Indiana Comic Conrecently. She said:

“I thinkit would be very poetic to be invited back, especially having the people that were involved to begin with, the best parts of it, Gail Berman, and then having Chloé Zhao direct — Oscar winner and, in general, badass [Laughs] — and then the Zuck sisters who are incredible writers and then obviously Sarah backing it and I hope to be part of it.”
