If you feel it, chase it — no wait, wrong movie. But after nearly 20 years, Disney may still be looking to chase the magic of one iconic character. The Pixar movieCarswas released in 2006, and it’s gone on to spawn sequels, as well as theme park rides, and more. According to the voice of Lightning McQueen himself,Owen Wilson, Disney is still looking for that perfect “Ka-Chow.” Talking with Collider’sChristina Radishfor his Apple TV+ seriesStick, Wilson explains that he didn’t expect the longevity of the character at all and says:
“Of course,I could never have imagined that it would continue on the way it has.Just a week ago, I was recording something. They’re doing something with Lightning McQueen that I went in for and found myself saying, ‘Ka-Chow.’ I asked them, ‘There must be a bank of Ka-Chows that you have at this point.’ The idea that, 20 years in, I’m going to have a different Ka-Chow than I’ve already said, butI guess they’re still looking for that perfect Ka-Chow. They’re chasing it.”

What Is ‘Cars’?
Carsis a movie about anthropomorphic cars that follows the cocky rookie race car Lightning McQueen, voiced by Wilson. When Lightning gets stranded on his way to the Piston Cup, he ends up in a place called Radiator Springs, exploring the “big city guy gets humbled by the people of a small town” trope. There he meets Tow Mater, a tow truck voiced byLarry the Cable Guy, Sally, voiced byBonnie Hunt, and Doc Hudson, a former race car, voiced byPaul Newman. There are two feature-length sequels,Cars 2andCars 3. Along the way, the franchise has also gained two cartoon series as well as several Pixar shorts.
There was also the 2013 spin-off movie calledPlanesthat is about, you guessed it, planes instead of cars. That film also got a sequel. Overall, the film franchise has earnedroughly $1.7 billion at the box office with the two Planes spin-offs included. For Pixar, it is the studio’s eleventh highest-grossing franchise. Could there ever be a fourthCarsmovie, though? AtD23 Brazil, fans were asked which movies they’d like to see from Pixar, and on the survey,Cars 4was included, so the idea of it is at least floating in the ether somewhere, but no official moves have been made towards development or announcement.
