Streaming services are all the rage at the moment, but as more and more new streaming services launch, the movies and TV shows we most hold dear appear to be spreading thinner and thinner. Over the last 12 months or so, we’ve seen the launch of a number of proprietary streaming services that aim to rival the established brands like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu, and with those launches various films and shows have moved off “the big 3” to these new streaming services....

IO Interactive recently hinted at their new content roadmap for the game, which will begin on January 20.Hitman 3has continued to be a success for the company since its launch in early 2021, with the developer reaching a milestone of 50 million players. I’m not really sure how I escaped my film school education without watchingChinatown, but it’s one that’s been on my ever-growing, never-ending watchlist for quite some time. The only things I knew about this movie were that it was directed by the controversialRoman Polanski, it starredJack Nicholsonas private eye Jake Gittes, and, at least I assumed, it was largely set in the Chinatown district of Los Angeles. TheShaka King-directed film tells the true story ofFred Hampton(Kaluuya), the chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther party. Much of the movie focuses on his powerful voice within the movement and how that caught the eye of the FBI, but it’s Fishback’s work as Hampton’s fiancée,Deborah Johnson(nowAkua Njeri), that adds an especially moving intimacy to the story....

Kathryn Bigelowhas often been at her best when detailing the vaguely homoerotic, exceedingly intimate relationships between men, and what drives these men. This is certainly the case withPoint Breakand arguably withK-19: The Widowmakertoo. There’s a volatile current of Oedipal details flowing underneath the action inNear Dark, and the boy’s club mentality of the military can be gleaned in fascinating flecks of dialogue and gestures inThe Hurt Locker. In all these movies, including her latest film,Detroit, the way that men compete and speak with one another, whether in a combative tone or to convince someone else, is crucial to her insights on the comfort that comes from violence and its unstable nature, as well as its overall lack of substance....

WithTed Lassoreturning this week for itsthird and potentially final season, it’s time to recognize the true backbone of the show, Keeley Jones (Juno Temple). In a series famous for its wholesomeness and lovable characters, Keeley still manages to stand out among the rest, evolving from a potentially one-note character into a complex, independent woman who always brings out the best in those around her. Apple TV+’s hit comedyTed Lassofollows the fictional English football team AFC Richmond under the leadership of former American football coach Ted Lasso, a character originated byJason Sudeikisin 2013 for a series ofpromotional videosfor NBC’s coverage of England’s Premier League....

DreamWorks Animation released an exciting trailer (which is somewhat spoilery,if you haven’t seen the excellent first season) trailer today for the second season of the whimsical, post-apocalyptic seriesKipo and the Age of Wonderbeastscoming to Netflix June 12th. The trailer provides a glimpse into the high-stakes adventure and thrills that await in Season 2 as Kipo (Karen Fukuhara) embarks on a mission to find Scarlemagne and free her people from his mind control....

20th Century Fox has released aLogan Noirtrailer. The upcoming black-and-white version ofJames Mangold’sLoganwill be available in select theaters tomorrow for one night only, but it will also be available on 4K and Blu-ray (if you pick up the film in 4K, thenLogan Noirwill also be in 4K). So what’s the benefit of putting the film into black and white? It’s an interesting experiment, and one that helps give the film a different tone not just visually but emotionally....
