NBC has ordered a trio of additional episodes for the new drama seriesManifest, but this is not a case of playing it safe. Traditionally when a network series debuts during the fall season, it does so with 13 episodes in the can. Then, depending on how the show does ratings-wise, a network might order nine additional episodes (called a “back nine”) to consist of a full season’s worth of episodes—22 in total....

The countdown has yet to hit zero for3 Body Problem. Aftercatching fire on Netflixearlier this year, the streamer announced during its upfront presentation that the massive hit sci-fi adaptation fromDavid Benioff, D.B. Weiss, andAlexander Woowill return to the streamer for a second season. All three creatives will be back to continue adapting the trilogy of novels fromCixin Liuand ensure that this story has the “epic conclusion” they so desire. It comes as Benioff and Weiss have also re-upped their overall deal with Netflix to not only continue their writing and production work on3 Body Problembut to craft other projects for the streamer, including the recently-announcedDeath by Lightning....

We have some sad news to report today asPenny Marshall, the director behindBig,Awakenings, andA League of Their Own, has passed away at the age of 75. According toTHR, she died from complications due to diabetes. Marshall first earned fame playing Laverne DeFazio on theHappy DaysspinoffLaverne & Shirley. However, that show, which ran for eight seasons from 1976 – 1983, was before my time. I became a fan of Marshall thanks to her directing work....

Clint Eastwood’s rant against the horrors of fake newsRichard Jewellis getting generally positive reviews, but certain factual elements of the film have come under fire. In particular, the film’s portrayal of Kathy Scruggs, a reporter for the Atlanta-Journal Constitution that was among the first to break the story that the FBI were investigating the titular security guard as a suspect in the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park bombing. The movie depicts Scruggs as trading sex for the inside tip that sparked the story....
