Prime Video’s new Norse epic series continues to flesh out its cast after addingXavier MolyneuxandJessica Madsenas its leads. Now, per Deadline, aKraven the Hunterstar is joining the saga in a royal new role.Levi Millerhas been cast asHaakon the Good, the younger half-brother of Molyneaux’s famed Viking raiderErik Bloodaxe, in the historical seriesBloodaxe, which is set to begin filming between Iceland and Ireland this summer.VikingsmastermindMichael Hirtzis at the helm as creator, showrunner, and executive producer alongside his son,Horatio Hirst, in what is shaping up to be a spiritual successor to the six-season History Channel epic.

Bloodaxeprimarily follows the titular raider and his wife,Gunnhild(Madsen), the Mother of Kings, in theirfight for the throne of Norwayat a time when the country is divided by bitter rivalries and shifting loyalties. As war and chaos threaten to consume the kingdom, things only get more complicated with other Scandinavian lords entering the fray alongside a powerful English ruler, all of whom seek to expand their influence. With the series bringingthe legends of the Icelandic Sagasto life and exploring the backstory of Bloodaxe, Haakon will have a big part to play as the eventual king of Norway, who forces Erik and his family into exile after gaining the support of powerful landowners and turning his allies against him.

MGM Television will produceBloodaxefor Prime Video, and it’ll mark a much-anticipated return to Nordic storytelling for Hirst after closing outVikingsback in 2021. He’s since been occupied with MGM+‘sBilly the Kidseries, which was picked up fora third and final season back in October. In addition to him and his son, his latest Viking-centric show will also be executive produced byMorgan O’Sullivanunder his O’Sullivan Productions banner,Steve Starkunder his Toluca Pictures label,Arturo Interian,John Weber,Sheila Hockin, andFred Toye.
