Nonetheless, did you know that he also tried his hand at directing? In 2015, Gosling made his directing debut withLost River, which found a new home.
Lost River,described as a “dark fairytale”follows a family, consisting of a mother, Billy, who finds it hard to retain her ancestral home as she defaults on a loan. To save his family from bankruptcy, her son, Bones, tries to unearth the town’s origins. The feature written by Gosling was a commercial failure, grossing only $615,500 on its $2 million budget.
The surreal and unconventional storytelling of the movie missed the mark with both audiences and critics garnering aRotten Tomatoesscore of 30 percent. The movie has a stellar cast consisting of some power-packed performers, includingChristina Hendricksas Billy,Iain De Caesteckeras Bones,Saoirse Ronanas Rat,Matt Smithas Bully,Ben Mendelsohnas Dave,Eva Mendesas Cat, and many more.
Ryan Gosling Will Be Next Seen in ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’
Lost River remains Gosling’s only attempt at directing but his acting credits include some of the most exciting upcoming projects includingStar Wars: Starfighter. Directed byShawn Levy, the movie is part of new slew of films that were announced by the studio. More details were revealed during the recently held Star Wars Convention, where Collider’sMaggie Lovittwas in attendance.
During the convention,Levy explained the timeline ofStarfighterin the grand universe, making it the first piece ofStar Warsfiction to explore the aftermath of 2019’sThe Rise of Skywalker. “The movie is a new adventure, it’s new characters. It takes place in a new period of time after the Battle of Exegol in Episode 9,” he revealed, adding,
“It’s a big galaxy, and it feels like there’s an opportunity to do a movie that’s not a prequel, that’s not a sequel, and gives us the Star Wars DNA that we love, but with an adventure that’s all new.”
While no further cast announcements were made Gosling added that the plot ofStar Wars: Starfighter"has so much adventure, so much heart, and original characters. It’s an opportunity to shine a light into a side of the universe that we may not have seen, and there’s just no one more perfect to do that than Shawn."
Lost Riverwill be available to stream on Max May 1st. We’ll have to wait for 2027 to seeStarfighter.
