James Gunn’sSupermanis now playing in theaters everywhere, but some fans have taken it upon themselves to try to convince others not to see it. The X user BatfleckMovie posted a video of a truck driving through the street with a billboard on it encouraging fans to close their wallets and not go see the newSupermanmovie. The billboard even includes a photo ofHenry Cavill’s Superman cut with a fan-madeMan of Steel 2title card. Cavill last played the character in 2022 during theBlack Adampost-credit scene, and while it seemed like at the time he was coming back into the fold, it ultimately ended up being the final scene from a total misfire that will ultimately be forgotten. Cavill first starred inMan of SteelforZack Snyderin 2013.
Fans of Zack Snyder’sDCEUhave had a particularly tough time letting go and accepting that that chapter of DC stories is over. While Snyder’s doom and gloom style certainly didn’t resonate with everyone — especially not fans of the classic comic books — none of the fault belonged to Henry Cavill. Cavill’s portrayal and interpretation of the character were merely a vessel for the visions of Snyder, who insisted on a less hopeful and darker version of theMan of Steel. Once Zack Snyder was able to get his cut,Zack Snyder’s Justice League, released straight on HBO Max, fans took this as a sign to see how far they could push things. Snyder’s time atDChas come and gone, and ifhe doesn’t hold any ill willtowards James Gunn, neither should his fans.
