Soccer. Football. Fútbol. Calcio. Whatever you call it, it brings the world together. And so doesTed Lasso.Ted Lassohas officially begun production on Season 4.Apple TV+’s hit series garnered 61 Emmy nominations and won 13 during its first three seasons.Ted Lassois back afterTed (Jason Sudeikis) left AFC Richmond three seasons into the job as manager of the London club. During Ted’s three seasons at the helm, AFC Richmond were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship, promoted back to the Premier League and finished second in the league behind Manchester City.
With Ted now home in Kansas, what will the storyline be for Season 4?And what about the rest of the AFC Richmond crew? Some returning cast have been confirmed, while others are either unconfirmed or will not be back. After such a gapbetween Season 3 and Season 4, fans are speculating what this new season could hold for audiences. Here are the plot points thatTed LassoSeason 4 needs to address.

American college football coach Ted Lasso heads to London to manage AFC Richmond, a struggling English Premier League soccer team.
6Ted Lands a Women’s Soccer Coaching Job
How exactly does he score this position?
This one seems pretty straightforward, right? Though most details remain a secret, on theNew Heightspodcast withTravisandJason Kelce,Jason Sudeikis revealedthat,“We’re writing Season 4 now, that’s the official word. Ted’s coaching a women’s team.“Is it AFC Richmond’s women’s team? Could it be the NWSL’s Kansas City Current?
Regardless of the specific club or league, we know that Ted will be leading them. But if it is AFC Richmond, did Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) approach him? Was Ted missing England and decided to make a call to Richmond’s Director of Football Operations Leslie Higgins (Jeremy Swift)? And if Ted is staying in Kansas to be close to his son, Henry, who approached him? Did Ted make a call, or did the owner? As much as Ted tried to protest to Trent Crimm (James Lance) it wasn’t just him that brought AFC Richmond together, his story has always been the glue that holds all the other characters together. The Season 3 finale had a lot of loose ends to be explored – the women’s team being one of them – and now, thanks to Ted, these storylines can be kickstarted. All these questionsshouldbe answeredvery early on in the season.

5Trent Crimm and His Whereabouts
What story is he chasing now?
(Formally) of The Independent, Trent Crimm (James Lance) was last seen at a signing for his new book,The Richmond Way. The book dove deeper than just the matches and results. The Richmond Waychronicled how the people at the club treated each other, raised each other, and became a support system.Trent had a key role in Season 3, not only telling the story of AFC Richmond’s chase for a Premier League title, but he was crucial in helping Colin (Billy Harris) become comfortable with his sexuality and eventually allowing him to come out to his teammates.
So what is Trent up to in Season 4? Could we see him follow upThe Richmond Waywith a women’s team sequel? Maybe report on Ted’s new journey in America?Trent is too important toTed Lasso’sheart to not be included in Season 4. From a skeptic journalist to a true insider, Trent’s journey in Ted Lassohas been such a highlight that it would be a shame if we didn’t see him along for the ride in this new chapter.

4AFC Richmond Women’s Team
Who will jump over to kickstart this new team?
In the Season 3 finale, Keeley hands Rebecca a proposal titled “AFC Richmond Women’s Team”.It’s the perfect cliffhanger to catapult us into an intriguing storyline. As mentioned, women’s soccer is expected to be atthe center of Season 4. But is it AFC Richmond? Women’s soccer has grown exponentially in the US and around the world. The NWSL has a four-year, $240 million media rights deal across multiple networks, the United States Women’s National Team is coming off of a gold medal triumph at the 2024 Summer Olympics, and the Women’s Euro 2025 broke records for attendance and prize money. There is no better time to tap into the women’s soccer fan base than now.
If the Greyhounds do expand into women’s football, who is leading them out of the tunnel?Could it be Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) or Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein)? Maybe Nathan Shelley (Nick Mohammed)?

3Existing AFC Richmond Coaching Staff
Who will replace Nate Shelley?
What makes AFC Richmond special is the people. That “Believe” mentality all started with the coaching staff. Luckily for us, Brendan Hunt and Brett Goldstein have been confirmed to be returning for Season 4, so expect to see plenty of Beard and Roy. After all,Rebecca named Roy as head coach inthe Season 3 finalefollowing Ted’s departure. But at this moment, Nick Mohammed has yet to be confirmed. That would leave a big hole in Richmond’s coaching staff.
With Mohammed not locked in (yet), we need to know if Nate’s role is going to be replaced with someone else. Not only that,Nate is one of the founding members of the Diamond Dogs, which has been an extension of the coaching staff (plus Higgins) at AFC Richmond. Maybe Nate is moving over to help with the newly formed women’s team, but until then, we hope “Nate the Great” makes a comeback!

2Rebecca’s Relationship With Matthijs
Is Rebecca’s Amsterdam mystery man still in the picture?
Remember that mystery man from Amsterdam? You know, the guy whose name we don’t know? Well, it is in fact “Matthijs” (Matteo van der Grijn), only seen in the credits.Matthijs saved Rebecca after she fell into an Amsterdam canal, and took her back to his houseboat where she spent the night. The two share a kiss in the morning, and we expect they’ll never see each other again.
Are Rebecca and Matthijs still a couple?
Until… the Season 3 finale, when Rebecca is leaving the airport after saying goodbye to Ted. A young girl trips in front of Rebecca, andit turns out to be the daughter of (you guessed it) Matthijs! We later see them attend Higgins' barbecue together. Are Rebecca and Matthijs still a couple? Is Rebecca a step-mom? Season 4 must tell us!
1Keeley and Roy
Could we see this couple get back together?
Keeley Jones has not been short of suitors during the series. Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), Roy and venture capitalist Jack Danvers (Jodi Balfour) were all involved, to some degree, romantically with Keeley throughout the first three seasons. But the last we saw Keeley, she was single. She threw both Roy and Jamie out of her house after they told her she must choose between the two of them.
Keeley and Roy was a fan-favorite relationship, and had the most depth out of all of Keeley’s connections. From a late-night kiss, to complete avoidance, to a first date, and Keeley comforting Roy in the locker room after his final game — this relationship has it all. Sodoes Roy make Keeley feel like she’s been struck by lightning? With Phil Dunsternot confirmed to be returning, this opens up the door to a Keeley-Roy reconciliation. ToBill Lawrence, Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt: Please give them another shot!
