Ron Howardhas been a part of many cherished properties throughout his career. Starting on the showThe Andy Griffith Show, Howard became a fan favorite, but it was his time onHappy Daysthat gave him household recognition. Since the series found a second (and third) life on platforms like TV Land, talks about a reboot of the series have surfaced.Recently though, Howard has been talking a lot about the iconic series and made it clear that thepraise for the show is lovely but that they are not thinking of rebootingHappy Daysany time soon.

While talking at the WSJ Future of Everything event in New York, Howard told PEOPLE that he thinks the love people have for the show is great, but that doesn’t mean they’re all coming back. “It’s amazing, butwe’re not doing a reboot,“Howard said. “The fact that the show endures, andthatThe Andy Griffith Showis still on–both of these shows have never left the air– and it kind of blows my mind in an interesting way,” Howard told the publication. “There’s something about that that doesn’t age – it was nostalgia when it was made.”

The Fonz, played by Henry Winkler, smiling widely in Happy Days.

But Howard made one thing clear about this: “For that reason, [both shows] seem to endure, and it means the world to me.” Meaning that, even though there is still love for the shows themselves, that doesn’t mean that there is a reason to revisit them right away. Maybe it’sa good thing that we’re leavingHappy Dayswhere it is.

There Is One ‘Happy Days’Cast Member Ron Howard Still Holds Dear

The show has ended up with multiple spin-off series, including the short-livedJoanie Loves Chachi. But one thing has lasted the test of time: Howard’s relationship with his co-star,Henry Winkler.Winkler played the Fonz on the series and Howard shared with PEOPLE that the two “clicked immediately"when they were working together, and that he looked up to Winkler when the two were filming the series. “Henry’s a few years older than I am. Yale educated, and he looked at acting in a way that was – it wasn’t Hollywood,” Howard said. “It was a little more intellectual. It was theater based, and that was new to me.But more than anything, we just got along beautifully and worked well together.”

So while a reboot is not in the cards, we can see Howard (and Winkler) in older episodes ofHappy Days.
