Solo Leveling’s future remains uncertain as its production studio,A-1 Pictures, has received some bad news. According to the latest financial reports for the previous fiscal year, the company has reportedly incurred a loss in the millions. This left many to wonder how the studio landed on the red, despite the numerous successSolo Levelingreceived this year.
According to the published financial report posted on GameBiz, A-1 Pictures showed a net loss of 178 million yen (~ $1.2 million USD). It also published a performance trend, which revealed that the studio had been performing well since 2014. However, by 2025, there was a significant decline, making this year the studio’s biggest loss in nearly ten years. It’s essential to note that A-1 Pictures falls under theAniplexumbrella, a subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation and one of the largest Japanese entertainment companies. So, while a $1.2 million net loss may look bad, it shouldn’t affect the future of eitherSolo Levelingor any of A-1 Pictures projects. Additionally,Sony praisedSolo Levelingduring its recent business presentation, so it would be embarrassing for the company if it were to gut the project after boasting about it to investors.

Aside fromSolo Leveling, A-1 Pictures has worked on other notable projects since its establishment in 2005. Some of these includeBlack Butler,Blue Exorcist,Sword Art Onlineand its spin-off,Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online,Your Lie in April, andKaguya-sama: Love Is War, just to name a few.
