With The CW’s superhero showsThe FlashandArrowcurrently enjoying their mid-season break, two new trailers have surfaced to remind audiences that they will be back, and they’ll be bringing new allies and villains with them. Returning Tuesday, January 19th and Wednesday, January 20th at 8pm respectively,The FlashandArrowhave a lot to take care of in the remaining portion of the season. (Keep in mind that The CW’s new spin-off showDC’s Legends of Tomorrowwill also be premiering on Thursday, January 21st at 8pm, so who knows what sort of complications that will create for the other shows.Check out the new trailer here!)

Without giving too much away, both mid-season trailers forThe FlashandArrowtease answers to a number of things that audiences have been waiting to see resolved. One is the appearance of a certain alter ego of one of the S.T.A.R. Labs team members, and another is a clue towho might be in that graveseen at the start of this season in Star City. We’ll talk about both trailers more after you check them out, butspoilersabound for those of you who haven’t caught up with both shows.

And here’s a look atArrow’smid-season trailer:

Now let’s have a chat about them, shall we? First of all, onThe Flash, it looks like we’ll get to see the team take a trip to Earth-Two. Now this is interesting for a number of reasons, but first and foremost, it allows the writers to venture into territories and plots that might otherwise be sacrificed for the sake of keeping the original timeline consistent. Of course I’m talking about the appearance of Earth-Two Caitlin Snow, aka Killer Frost! While we don’t know the specific circumstances of how/why the team goes to Earth-Two, I’m guessing it has something to do with Zoom kidnapping Patty Spivot and the fact that Dr. Harrison Wells' daughter is still being held captive. And then there’s the return of Reverse-Flash himself! I’m definitely looking forward to seeing all of these issues resolved.

In a somewhat more low-key approach to the mid-season return,Arrowdoubled-down on the mysterious grave that was teased at the end of the season-four premiere. While it looks like Anarky is certain to return, Oliver & Company’s bigger threat continues to be Damien Darhk, especially after the events at the end of the season-four mid-season finale. The fact that they’re out for revenge is a foregone conclusion, but when Thea mentions that Felicity is out of surgery (with a complication), we can assume two things: First, Felicity’s probably not the one in the grave, and second, Felicity’s probably going to be paralyzed.

Now I could assume this just based onArrow’soften soap-opera levels of dramatic twists and turns, but beyond that, the strongBatmanthemes that have become entwined withArrow’sstoryline suggest that Felicity will become a version of DC Comics’Oracle. This really wouldn’t change Felicity’s character too much for the worse since she mostly assists the team from behind a computer screen, something the wheelchair-bound Oracle does for Batman. However, this change would giveEmily Bett RickardsandStephen Amellan added wrinkle to their relationship, and an extra depth for Felicity herself. This is all speculation on my part, and I have no idea what the writers have in store for her long-term, but I think it’s a safe bet that Felicity will become the new Oracle while someone else occupies the grave.
