If you’re not caught up on The CW’sThe Flash, consider yourself warned for potential spoilers.
Back in October of 2015,Robbie Amellteased that he would bereturning to an upcoming episodeofThe Flash. That news likely came as a pleasant surprise to fans since Amell’s character Ronnie Raymond (aka one half of Firestorm) sacrificed himself in the opening scene of the Season 2 premiere. But as fans also know, a character’s death is more like “death” on this show and sister seriesArrowsince there are myriad ways to bring them back from beyond; Lazarus pit, black magic, time travel, or alternate worlds come to mind. While these mechanics allow the writers to bring back pretty much any character that they want, they also offer clever ways to put new spins on familiar faces.
So whenEWlearned just how Amell would be returning toThe Flashin an upcoming Season 2 episode, it was with the added bonus of knowing that we’d get to see a very different side of Ronnie Raymond. In fact, it will be a version of Raymond from the parallel world of Earth-Two. We already glimpsed Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) and her Earth-Two alternate character of the villainous Killer Frostin the show’s mid-season trailer, but previously unseen is her newest companion, Ronnie Raymond, aka Deathstorm.

“We are beyond excited to have Robbie back onThe Flash.You can’t keep a good Firestorm down. Only this time, he’s back with a twist, a deadly Earth-Two version of our beloved Ronnie in the form of Deathstorm.”
That’s a pretty big piece of information for a couple of reasons. First of all, from a relationship standpoint, the reunion of Snow and Raymond - villainous though it may be - will be a sweet one for fans who felt that #SnowStorm never really got enough screentime together. Secondly, for fans of the DC Comics, this opens up an interesting door for more “Green Lantern” mythology. Without getting too sidetracked by the incredible “Blackest Night” and “Brightest Day” miniseries, I’ll just say that the comics version had Ronnie Raymond falling victim to the lure of the Black Lantern Corps, briefly becoming the Black Lantern Firestorm before a separate entity emerges, one calling itself Deathstorm. (Bonus Trivia: The Earth-3 version of Deathstorm is a combination of Dr. Martin Stein and a corpse he was experimenting on…)
While I don’t expect Deathstorm’s appearance to kick open the gates to all things “Green Lantern”, it’ll certainly be a fun exploration of the increasingly crazy comic book references seen inThe Flash.The mid-season premiere airs on The CW Tuesday, January 19th at 8pm.
