It’s hard to believe it’s almost been a year sinceBeetlejuice Beetlejuicetook over theaters. The sequel to the hit 1988 horror comedy was well worth the wait and made a ton of money at the box office. TheMichael Keaton-starringTim Burtonfilm was a love letter to the genre’s spooky past. Now, ahead of the film’s first anniversary,Beetlejuice Beetlejuiceis getting a gothic new 4K steelbook.
PerGruv, the 4K/Blu-ray/Digital combo pack steelbook features new artwork of Keaton’s Ghost With the Most and his number one employeeBobin the iconic Neitherworld waiting room. The inside artwork also features another promotional image of Beetlejuice from the sequel. This is the second steelbook released for the film. The first one was aglow-in-the-dark slipcover edition. This new steelbook will be $29.95 USD. The special features will include a commentary by Burton and seven ghoulish featurettes, the same as the original physical media release.
The Neitherworld Is Back for More
Taking place over three decades after the first film,Beetlejuice Beetlejuicesees the Deetzes reunited after a death in the family.This includes Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) and her teenage daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega). The latter isn’t on good terms with her mother and this trip back to Lydia’s childhood home isn’t helping much. Astrid soon finds a path into the Neitherworld by mistake. Having no one else to turn to,Lydia seeks the help of Beetlejuice,who’s still madly in love with her, to find Astrid. He agrees if Lydia marries him. However, Beetlejuice has an even bigger problem: This Bio-Exorcist’s ex-wife Delores (Monica Bellucci) is back for revenge.
From the old-school practical effects to the detailed production designs to the campy performances,Beetlejuice Beetlejuicewas a rare franchise sequel that retained what made the original so magical. This was classic Burton through-and-through. Most critics tended to agree, awarding it a fresh 75% onRotten Tomatoes. It also made over $450 million at the worldwide box office. Because of that, a third film washinted at by Warner Bros. earlier this year. However,Burton shot that downlast month while doing press forWednesdaySeason 2.
