The King of Kingshas been playing in theaters for just over three weeks. After falling a stunning 9% during its second weekend, the animated biblical epic dropped a whopping 76% during its third weekend. This domestic total is enough to pushThe King of KingspastBong Joon Ho’sParasiteto become thehighest-grossing Korean film ever in the U.S.The King of Kingswas written and directed bySeong-ho Jang, withRob EdwardsandJamie Thomasonalso contributing to the script along withHoseok Sung. It is also the second-highest-grossing movie ever for its distributor, Angel Studios.
The King of Kingskicked off its box office run with a strong $19.3 million debut, which was enough to earn it the #2 spot at the box office over the weekend of April 11. It fell behind onlyA Minecraft Movie, which grossed $78 million during its second weekend in theaters.The King of Kingsthen followed its opening weekend with a stellar $17.5 million, but this still saw it drop to third place thanks to the release ofSinners, the vampire horror thriller starringMichael B. Jordanthat grossed $48 million during its debut.Sinnerswas also the first movie to dethroneA Minecraft Movie.The King of Kingsthen fell out of the top five at the box office this weekend with a $4.2 million performance, and it will certainly continue to slide as it loses more theaters.
