Throughout Season 1 ofThe Pitt, there were many standout moments that made us root for and feel for the characters – especially the doctors and nurses on call. One of the scenes thatwe won’t forget any time soonwas when Dana (Katherine LaNasa) tries to enjoy a rare break to smoke whenshe’s suddenly punched in the faceby a patient who was angry at how long he had to wait in the emergency room. The moment is what prompts Dana to decide not to return toPittsburgh Trauma Medical Centerafter her shift ends. During a recent interview with Collider, however,LaNasa revealed that there was more to Dana’s decisionthan viewers were allowed to see.
LaNasa told our EditorCarly Lanethat the speech that Dana gives Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) was actually longer than what we witnessed. In the extended version of the conversation, we get a clearer picture as to why this particular patient was the last straw after she had been through somuch in the emergency room. She stated:

“One of the things that’s sad about the edit of [Episode] 12 is that they ran out of time, butthere was a lot more to Dana’s speech at the end. When she says, ‘I’ve been punched, I’ve been hit, I’ve been spit at, kicked on, even had feces thrown at me…’ It’s this whole thing, but then it doesn’t cut right to when she says, ‘I think I’m done.’ She says, ‘But that guy today, that was different. That guy wasn’t high or drunk or suffering a mental health crisis. He was just angry.‘And that’s that kind of, ‘What am I doing? When am I going to save myself? We’re just fodder. We’re just out there.’ They even cut that part where she says, ‘We’re just trying to help, doing the best we can.’ That’s the longer part of that line.”
