The Protectoris the newest film from directorRaul Gasteazoro, who also wrote and produced it. The new film is set to show an exciting new look into a post-apocalyptic future where trying to fight for freshwater is the only way to survive. The cast includesMarguerite Moreau,Graham Greene, Jade Tailor, and more! In an exclusive new trailer released by Collider, we get to see what Gasteazoro has in store for us.
The trailer begins by saying that the “West is once again wild” as we see people fighting for resources, determined to survive. Basically, think about how people reacted inWaterworldand then imagine that without the water. That’s kind of whatThe Protectoris proposing. Basically, it’sWaterworldmeetsMad Max,and that’s kind of exciting! The trailer shows water being kept on a reservation and those who are struggling to survive without the valuable resource are ready to fight back and go and steal it. The issue is, someone has “booby-trapped” the road and there is only one safe way in.
The film’s summary is described as follows:
“Ravaged by water wars, famine, and drought, the West is once again wild. To escape a manslaughter prison sentence and win her freedom, a woman must gain access to the region’s last freshwater aquifer, which is protected by a deadly minefield.”
Before ‘The Protector,’ Marguerite Moreau Was Known For Her Comedic Work
Moreau was featured in one of the best weird cult comedies of the 2000s. She played Katie in the filmWet Hot American Summerand the subsequent Netflix series,Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of CampandWet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later. The film was written byMichael Showalter, who also starred in the film and shows as Alan (who was in love with Katie), andDavid Wai. The comedy within the franchise is so odd that you have to kind of lean intoKen Marinorunning aggressively in place.
Obviously,The Protectoris a bit different but it is nice to remember that Moreau made a name for herself in comedy. She’s done horror withQueen of the Damnedand was even inThe Mighty Ducksmovies. But withThe Protector, we’ll get to see a new side to Moreau’s work, and we cannot wait to see what she does in the genre.
