The last few months have been a whirlwind forThe Wheel of Timefans, and now showrunner Rafe Judkins has finally broken his silence on the chaos.Prime Video canceledThe Wheel of Timeon May 23, and only a few days later, fans put togethera petition to save the series. As of yesterday, this petition hadracked up over 123,000 signatures, but it was also announced that Amazon and Sony have no plans to shop the series to other streamers or networks. The show is based on the hit novel series by Robert Jordan, but Judkins has been the showrunner and primary creator since the beginning. He took to his personal Instagram to post a lengthy message about the shocking cancellation, which can be found below.
Judkins starts out the message by highlighting how many people have asked him whyThe Wheel of Timewas canceled, and he admits that he doesn’t know. He continued by profusely praising the actors and crew involved withbringing the show to life the last few years, and mentioned how it accomplished the rare feat of spending 20 weeks in the Nielsen top 10,“a feat few shows have been able to match in the last decade.”He spoke about what a“devastating blow”it’s been to reconcile with the cancellation due to his earliest goal when he first pitched the show being to tell the whole story. Although it was reported thatAmazon has no plans to shop the series, Judkins finished the message by remaining hopeful that someone will help them see it through, because“these fans deserve to see the story finished.”

Why Was ‘The Wheel of Time’ Canceled?
During the initial report ofThe Wheel of Time’s cancellation,Prime Video’s motives were reportedly strictly financial. Many higher-level executives for the streamer are big fans of the show, but they couldn’t justify the increase and cost and decrease in viewership that it had seen in the third season, which was expected to extend into Season 4 and beyond had it been renewed. Prime Video seems to have prioritized investing in its flagship fantasy series,The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is the most expensive show ever made per episode.
The Wheel of Timewill not return for a fourth season. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the situation and watch the first three seasons ofThe Wheel of TimeonPrime Video.
