StarringLauren Lyleas the titular crime-solver, Karen Pirie was praised for both its central performances and its intelligent, twisting mysteries, with many citing the titular performance as one of the most refreshing in the British crime genre in quite some time.
So successful was the series that a Season 2 felt inevitable, with the announcement of a sequel arriving back in early 2023. However, two years later, little has been discussed, despite reports that filming began in early 2024. Followingfirst-look images of Season 2arriving in June, the ITV andBritBoxseries have nowrevealed the first full trailer for Season 2, which can be watched below as long as you’re based in the UK. The trailer gives fans their first proper look at the titular Karen after her promotion to detective inspector, which is accompanied by greater responsibility and darker crimes to solve.

What Is ‘Karen Pirie’ Season 2 About?
“The 1984 case of Catriona and Adam Grant has confounded investigators and intrigued the public like no other,” the official synopsis forKaren PirieSeason 2begins, cited viaRadio Times. It continues, “Catriona (Julia Brown), the charming young heiress to a vast oil fortune, and her two-year-old son Adam were brutally kidnapped at gunpoint outside a fish and chip shop in Fife.” This brutal crime is just the beginning, with the synopsis continuing, “The ransom notes that followed stirred up an uncontrollable press storm, but when the culprits fell silent, the police faltered, and Catriona and Adam were never seen again.” The official synopsis then concludes:
“Now, a man’s body has been discovered, with indisputable links to the original kidnap. With the first piece of evidence in decades, Karen must assemble an unbeatable team alongside her sincere and loveable sidekick DC Jason ‘Mint’ Murray (Chris Jenks) and the brilliant – but romantically complicated – DS Phil Parhatka (Zach Wyatt).
