Saturday Night Liveisn’t known for being the kindest to people with its many (and sometimes controversial) roasts. That includes their Weekend Updates' anchors and their partners.Colin JostandMichael Chehave been at the Update Desk for quite some time and the two have a tradition during the holidays of doing a “joke swap” where they eachwrite jokes for each other,and they don’t know what the other respective party has planned. In 2024, Che’s joke for Jost included a knock at his wife,Scarlett Johansson, who happened to be there. Now, Johansson is ready to get her revenge.
In a new cover story withVanity Fair, Johansson spoke about hostingSaturday Night Livefor its Season 50 closing episode and made it clear that shewasn’t going to allow Cheto get out of the episode without her taking a swing at him. Johansson brought up being there for the holiday special and detailedhow shocked she was by the jokethat Che wrote. “I had all these cameras on me. I didn’t expect the setup to be like that. I was like, ‘Wow, you really areseventh-, eighth-grade boys.’”
The joke in question included Costco, beef, and a reference tothe fact that Johanssonhad recently given birth to her and Jost’s son. While Johansson was warned, she wasn’t prepared for just how vulgar the joke was and is ready to take on Che in the finale. “I feel like it’s almost my responsibility to come up with some way toburn Michael back,” she said. “Retaliation, I’d say, should be expected. Others on the show could support this desire. Know what I mean?”
Back when the joke was aired, Johansson spoke about it toInStyleand said how she didn’t think it’d be that bad but was just shocked that Che went there. “It’s a vagina joke, how bad could it be?” Johansson recalled, and then shared her shock when she saw the photo. “And then as soon as the Costco photo came up, I was like, ‘No! No, Michael!'” she said, going on to say that having the cameras film her reaction was “so intense." Johansson said, “They were waiting for me to react. I felt insane. The fact that it took on a fullTo Catch a Predator-style reveal or whatever … All of a sudden, it was like a whole bunch of people holding up lights, and a guy with a video camera.”
