Along with the very first trailer, Universal Pictures has released a slew of new images from the highly anticipatedWarcraft. Co-written and directed byDuncan Jones(Moon), the film is an adaptation of the massively popular video gameWorld of Warcraft. The story gives equal weight to both sides of an epic conflict. Orc warriors fleeing their dying home find themselves in Azeroth, a kingdom that’s home to the humans. As the orcs set about colonizing the realm, the humans fight back, and good and evil on both sides wrestle through a conflict that has vital repercussions for everyone involved.

As you can see in these new images, this is a fully realized world that is unabashedly high fantasy. Via cutting-edge performance-capture technology,Toby KebbellandRob Kazinskyportray the central orc characters, chieftan Durotan and noble warrior Orgrim Doomhammer, respectively. On the side of the Alliance, we haveTravis Fimmelas military commander Anduin Lothar andDominic Cooperas King Llane Wrynn. And caught in the middle of the conflict isPaula Patton’s Garona, a half-orc half-human character.

It’s impressive to see not only how ambitiously realized this film is, but also how much it’s leaning into itsveryfantastical foundation. This isn’t a movie that’s trying to bringWarcraftto the masses by dressing itself up as something it’s not—this is serious fantasy, and in a world whereGame of Thronesis one of the most popular shows on all of television, it’s something that I think audiences are hungry for.
