The third and final season ofBosch: Legacydelivers plenty of shocking developments, but none more gut-wrenching than what happens to Detective Jimmy Robertson. In a new interview with Moviefone, starTitus Welliveropened up about reuniting with longtime friend and actorPaul Calderón— and how a powerful moment between Bosch and Robertson was cruelly cut short. For fans ofBosch, Robertson has been a constant presence in Harry Bosch’s world, dating back to the original series. Their relationship has often been tense and complex, marked by respect, suspicion, and begrudging banter and camaraderie. Season 3 ofLegacyfinally gives them a chance to build something new — but that promise is never fulfilled afterRobertson is brutally gunned down in an assassination.
“There’s mutual respect that exists there. But he saves Bosch’s life, and we see the beginning gestation of a different kind of relationship between those two characters. But we never get to see it realized. And then his character is so suddenly taken out and that infuriates Bosch.”

Calderón’s return was meaningful on multiple levels for Welliver, who’s known the actor for decades. The two first worked together onNew York Undercover, and their New York theatre roots run deep. “His realization of the Jimmy Robertson character is an absolute chef’s kiss of work,” Welliver said. “You get an actor who brings a level of gravitas, and we’ve been blessed over the years to have actors on the show that have a certain caliber.”
“All Cases Are Personal With Bosch”
In their final interactions, viewers see Bosch and Robertson warming to one another, even exchanging what feels like a casual promise for future work together, and to find the time to do what they should have done decades prior — become friends.
“Harry says, ‘Let’s do this again sooner than later.’ So, as an audience member, you go, ‘Oh, that’s cool. These guys, it’s not a love fest, but it’s a genuine relationship.’”

That’s what makes Robertson’s death such a bitter pill to swallow — not just for Bosch, but for the audience. “All cases are personal with Bosch,” Welliver added. “But I think in this season, when he’s hired to find this family that’s disappeared… Harry investigates the darkness probably deeper than he’s ever looked.”
